It’s Sale Time for Romantic Suspense Novels by Mary Marvella. 99 cents each until March 1, 2020.
A former school teacher, I love to write books about complex characters. Three of my Romantic Suspense novels are about independent women in jeopardy, strong men with protective streaks, and complex villains. I especially enjoy building sexual attractions that explode in steamy sex.
I have been a storyteller for as long as I can remember. I loved to make up stories for the other children and created the details for our “play like” or “let’s pretend” games. Sometimes the details were so real they scared me.
I was born in Augusta, Georgia. After graduating from Mercer University I taught language arts for 15 years and then served as a school counselor.
Now I tutor high school and college students, teach writers and edits. My inner English teacher loves the editing part. I Indie published 8 novels, 2 novellas, and an anthology of Christmas stories.
Protective Instincts, my first book, started a series of books about school teachers. I didn’t plan that. It just happened. Oddly enough, all three heroines are widows. So, are the stories alike? Not really. Only one is a mother. Two lost husbands they loved and one’s husband was killed in the bed of another woman. Two husbands were honorable men, while the third was a philanderer and swindler. Each story has a Mustang.
Why did I write these books? I had no choice. Each character appeared to me and insisted I write his or her story. Some of you understand, but others think we’re strange. Maybe we are. Works for me.
After I retired from teaching I became a tutor and a writer. Those two jobs expanded into editing and working as a writing coach. Most recently, I added ghost writing to my jobs. Some folks suggest I just changed careers instead of retiring.
As a Georgia native, I can’t avoid writing Southern books about family and people falling in love. My daughter doesn’t read my books. She doesn’t want to think her mama writes about sex and violence.
About the beginning of The Protective Series:
Protective Instincts, Book 1 of The Protective Series:
Sam and Brit met because he had premonitions she was in peril, and she was his son’s teacher.
After mourning the loss of her husband, Brit Roberts manages to pick up her life as a teacher for a rural Georgia High school. Things are fine until anonymous phone calls turn creepy and her life is endangered. It’s not until Sam Samuels, shows up to check on her that she finds a little peace. She struggles against a slight attraction to the handsome yet meddling security specialist.
Sam Samuels isn’t just the father of one of Ms. Robert’s students, he’s a man with premonitions so strong, they make him ill. So when he meets his son’s teacher and pain kicks in, he knows something’s wrong, but can’t put his finger on it until he interrupts an attempt to kill the teacher. Sam makes it his personal goal to protect her, only he didn’t count on falling for her.
Someone wants Brit, and now Sam, dead too. Could the death of her ex-husband be part of the reason? Can Brit and Sam navigate a relationship despite both of their headstrong natures?

Protecting Melissa, Book 2 of The Protective Series:
Melissa isn’t looking for a man in her life since her husband was killed for his dishonest business dealings before she learned about his secret life. She had a crush on Gabriel in her teens, but now that she’s his son’s teacher, she can’t afford to act on silly high school crushes. Melissa sees herself as a woman well-rid of a jerk, rather than as a widow. Since she learned the distressing news that her philandering husband swindled her neighbors and friends before an irate husband killed him in bed with his wife, she figures nothing can shock her. Right! She wants a quiet world, a safe world where she can teach and never think about the problems her husband caused.
Gabe remembers when Melissa followed him and her brother around. She’s no kid and he wants more from her than he should. Now she’s his son’s teacher and she’s in danger. How can he not protect her? Gabe has a lot to make up for, since he left his son and wife stateside while he served as a career Marine. In his defense, she had insisted she wanted to stay near her parents instead of traveling all over the world. Time and distance worked their magic, and he and his wife drifted apart, just as he and his son did. The years he nursed her and tried to be a better father weren’t enough to make up for not being there for her when she learned she had cancer.

The Cost of Deception Book 3 The Protective Series:
The Cost of Deception is a romantic suspense. Tess is a widowed mother and a teacher. She has been so wrapped in her role as a mother that she has forgotten how it feels to be a desirable woman. Attending her 20 year high school class reunion, the first she’s ever attended, changes that when she meets Drew. She and Drew were the class loners and too involved in studying to feel the hormones that attack teens.
Drew is now an undercover cop in Atlanta, GA. During his years in the military he had no concerns about marriage and starting his own family. His life put him in danger and he liked things that way. He was no longer the nerd who had attended Georgia Tech. Seeing Tess at the class reunion made him rethink what he really wanted.
She loves her children more than anything else. He doesn’t know how to make his career work with the things Tess and her kids make him want.
This book contains steamy sex and danger.

I love romantic suspense, MM. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, Joanne! I love writing it!
Long, long ago, Mary and I were critique partners, and I’ve read these three books when they were infants. I can strongly recommend each one. You won’t forget them. The Protective series is one of those works that stays with you.
