Q&A with Emma Ames:
In your Sweet Thangs Mysteries, it seems your character, Rayann is afraid of everything. What are some things you’re afraid of?
Where do you think Rayann gets all of those fears? Me!! She’s afraid of mimes, skunks, clowns, even garden gnomes! So am I!! The list goes on and on. I try to work some of my fears into her character in every book.
What book are you currently reading?
I think most people think of authors as writers and not readers. But the truth is, you can’t write if you don’t read. I’m generally reading at least 10 unpublished works from fellow members on https://www.thenextbigwriter.com, where I’ve been a top reviewer of over 10 years. Along with those, I’m reading one published book for my own enjoyment. If I’m not working, cooking, or writing, I’m reading!! Most of the time it will be a romance novel, but I do read other genres now and then. Currently, I’m reading Susan Elizabeth Phillips’ First Star I See Tonight.
In the animal world, would you be a sheep or a wolf? Why?
I’d like to think of myself as a wolf…aggressive and confident, however, I’m probably more of a sheep. I like being a member of a flock…not a pack.
Who has been the biggest inspiration in your life and why?
There have been so many. My maternal grandmother, for sure. She lived next door until her death when I was sixteen. Later, I had a friend who was 5 years older, and she influenced and inspired me a lot to speak up for myself. Even now, I have friends I’ve made through writing who inspire me all the time. I hope I’ll always have friends who do.
What do you think about when you’re alone?
A: The motherly answer here would be…my children, but the true answer is my characters! I’m constantly thinking about their next conflict, conversation, love connection! They just won’t leave me alone!!

About Secrets, Lies, and Homemade Pies:
Tizzy Donovan is having a run of bad luck. A bakery delivery gone wrong. A bar fight with an old classmate. The discovery of a dead body in the cemetery.
Texas Ranger Ridge Cooper’s luck isn’t much better. He’s finally gotten his first solo case, and it’s in the Podunk town of Brownsboro, Texas. But when he meets local beauty, Tizzy, he thinks his luck is about to change—until she becomes the prime suspect in his case!
“SECRETS, LIES, AND HOMEMADE PIES isn’t just another run-of-the-mill grim murder mystery. This tale of rural Texas is laced with an undercurrent of down-home characters and rollicking humor.”
