Meet the Crazy Eights
Meeting eight lifelong friends all at once can feel a little overwhelming. Trust me I’ve been there. But these women are worth it. They’re funny and irreverent, meddling and loyal to a fault.
Think of meeting the Crazy Eights like walking into a party where everyone has known each other for years.
At first that feels very intimidating. Who’s married? Who’s divorced? Who’s the troublemaker, or the funny one? Who always gives the best advice? Before long, though, you find yourself laughing at their jokes, cheering on their relationships, and wondering if they can squeeze one more chair around the table for you.
It would be worth it to keep them straight. After all, you want to leave the party with their contact info. You want to be friends with them.
But at a party, you see faces. So I’ve given my characters faces in the starter pack, along with short descriptions to help you along.
Because with these women, you’re going to want to come along. After all, Gabby is challenging them to fall in love and get hitched in twelve months or fewer! Friends since they were eight, these women are now in their thirties. They have had relationships that failed; they are gun-shy, or their careers are too important. They are women with no time for or interest in dating.
But this is Gabby, and she doesn’t take no for an answer. Instead, she raises the stakes until all the women have no choice but to accept.
The dare is on. And the series is launched. Read the books in any order, although a suggested order is on the starter pack. There are no spoilers and even I don’t know yet who wins the dare!
Although you don’t have to begin with Book One, having an introduction to everyone makes the experience even more fun. And that’s where the starter pack can help.

Why I Love Writing Friendship as Much as Romance
Why a starter pack? Because I cannot get enough of these women and wonderful female friendships. These characters share traits with my own lifelong friends, women who have been at my side through marriages, divorces, promotions and retirements.
These are the women I laugh with until I cry, who offer advice whether I ask for it or not—and it’s always spot on. My goal with this series is to make you long to be a Crazy Eight, and then to feel like you are one.
Lifelong friendships are about:
- Support
- Laughter
- Loyalty
- And Hope.
But they are also about
- Unsolicited advice
- Wardrobe critiques
- Gossip and meddling
- And so much laughter.
Friendship has always been one of the great love stories of my own life.
Long before I wrote about the Crazy Eights, I was lucky enough to have friends who celebrated life’s biggest moments with me and quietly carried me through the hardest ones. They’ve been there through weddings and funerals, career changes and retirement. Their laughter leaves me breathless, and their conversations last long after the coffee grows cold.
Those friendships became the heartbeat of this series.
Yes, every book I write is a romance. Every heroine finds her happily ever after. But before she falls in love with her hero, she’s already surrounded by women who love her enough to challenge her, tease her, rescue her and occasionally interfere in spectacular fashion.
My bachelors stand by one another, and so do my Crazies, because you don’t leave your friends behind when you fall in love. Quite the contrary. Sharing the experience with them only makes it sweeter.
That’s real life. Romance may change your future, but great friendships help you survive the present.
I think that’s one reason readers tell me they wish they could become the ninth Crazy Eight. Romance might draw them in, but it’s the friendships that make them want to stay.
Behind the Scenes
This is still a series in progress. While you get to know all the women, and sometimes their pets or their parents, I’m busy on the beaches of Bermuda and the dining room of a cruise ship large enough for shops, pools, restaurants and bars and a theater, but still small enough for a little gossip mill. And when a soccer mom is seen regularly with a Broadway actor turned film star, the cell phones are ready to capture it all.
So far, there are no grand gestures to report. Just two people discovering how easy it is to laugh together, trust one another, and enjoy the journey. Sometimes that’s exactly how the best love stories begin.
