I have had the great good fortune of knowing and working with Nancy Houser-Bluhm for the few years and more. Her quiet presence is calming to me, her humor is subtle, her work ethic is inspiring and her presence in our group of writers is a joy. She pushes me to put my butt in the chair and work, but never with a heavy hand. I love watching her research the historical aspects of her books, down to the last detail. It is only one of the things that makes Nancy, well, Nancy. I am amazed by her love of nature and of writing.
If you have not met Nancy, or come to know her novel, Whispers for Terra, you are in for a real treat. Allow me to introduce you to Nancy Houser-Bluhm, soon to be the author of a second novel, The Nickel Loop, and my friend.
Nancy Houser-Bluhm in her Own Words
Hi! I am thrilled to introduce myself to you. I began writing in elementary school as part of school based poetry contest. By 8th grade, an essay won me a trip to Washington DC. to watch a presidential inauguration. We did so from the hotel lobby. It was frigid and a group of 8th graders weren’t that committed.
In adult life I shifted to so much journaling to sort out life and then to report writing as a Speech Language Pathologist. I never thought I could write novels. “I suck at dialogue,” I’d lament. Turns out, I don’t! I love writing good dialogue. So never say never. …two novels to date. You too, could be featured here.
I write and read in quiet but if it’s noisy and I am writing a juicy scene, it could be the middle of Time Square. When I am not writing novels, I am blogging about something on my mind. The topic is ever changing; maybe that’s why I called it Minderings, a place for the wandering of your mind. I love new subscribers. Here’s the link:

Whispers for Terra by Nancy Houser-Bluhm
My first novel, Whispers for Terra has romance as a subplot, but will deepen your love for the woods, your tribe of women and community.
Here’s the blurb:
Mary has always felt a special connection with nature, frequently seeing faces in trees.
Spending time in nearby woods, she finds respite from her job in healthcare where she
works as a speech pathologist. Mary soon discovers other earth spirits have sensed her
ability to communicate and have chosen her to deliver a message that will influence our
earth’s soil and everything that comes from it.
Seeking to enlighten humanity, an initially reluctant Mary is emboldened by a ninety-
seven-year-old patient to embark on a journey of inner healing and outer discovery. Mary
soon encounters others who have also been marked to carry the earth’s message. As their
collective efforts become an expansive movement, the impact of the message amplifies, and
the earth begins to sense something new: relief.
Whispers for Terra is a story of hope, inspiration, and finding one’s path, showing us the impact group actions can make to heal our earth and each other.
All we need do, is listen.

The Nickel Loop by Nancy Houser-Bluhm
My second novel, The Nickel Loop is a full blown time travel romance. Watch for it. It should be out soon.
The Nickel Loop was inspired when someone asked, “If you could write a Christmas movie, what would it be?” I thought, what if the characters came from 2 different times and must navigate the new era together. Here’s the book blurb-
They say love conquers all. Blending cultural differences can be a challenge anytime. Can love endure when two people from a century apart, meet in the middle?
Emmeline, from current day, and Nicholas from 1898, find themselves in a small Colorado town, 1938. They have no idea what brought them there or how to return.
Friendships deepens quickly in life altering situations. Love sparks but can it enflame? What about the people they left behind? Soon Emmeline and Nicholas meet someone who can help them each return to their own time, but do they want to go back?
If you love time travel, and even more, time travel romance with a flavor of historical fiction; if you enjoy learning how somethings stay the same, while others should never be what they were, then the Nickel Loop is for you.
If you need a time travel romance to entertain you while awaiting the publication of The Nickel Loop, try my novella of Chicago in the fifties, Broken Time.
More about Nancy
When I am not writing, I am exploring, biking, hiking in my new-to-me town. I love hanging out with my husband and pets. We just moved from Colorado after 26 years. I am excited to be a Michigander again.
