Steamy romance is my guilty pleasure. The steamier the better.
Everyone has their favorite author, favorite song, favorite movie, and even a few guilty pleasures. My favorites are hard to narrow down to only one or two, but my guilty pleasures are easy: every ballad by the Beatles, The Replacements or Sweet Home Alabama, Political News and The Bachelorette.
And steamy romance novels.
If you’re like me and you can’t get enough of steamy romance, you have a list of favorite authors, the ones you follow on Bookbub and Amazon, the ones whose every book you read and recommend, the ones whose books you pre-order.
I have put together the following list of nine of my absolute favorite authors to introduce to you, my fellow steamy read lovers. I share the book that hooked me on them too. And I stick with indie authors because I too am an indie, aspiring to their success with characters, story and heat!
Let’s bring on the sizzle.
Meet My Favorite Steamy Romance Writers
Kate Canterbary: For me, Kate Canterbary is someone I never tire of, a master steamy romanceShe’s sassy and irreverent, pays incredible attention to detail and writes incredibly hot sex! Her Walsh series sucked me in completely. I was sure she was an architect, her detail is so amazing, and she made me fall in love with New England all over again. Start with Underneath It All, the first book in the Walsh series. You won’t be disappointed and you will fall totally in love with this family! I read this book in one day (well, one night too) because I could not put it down. The next day, I bought book two!
Penny Reid: This author calls her first book in the Knitting in the City series a ‘smart romance.’ That is exactly what it, and all her books are. Smart, funny, romantic, with clever plots and complex characters you can’t help but love. She’s a Chicago girl like me, which doesn’t hurt, but Ms.Reid’s writing is what brings me back again and again. Start with Neanderthal Seeks Human: A Smart Romance (Knitting in the City Book 1). I think the title provides the first clue—smart romance indeed!
Melanie Harlow: Although I knew of Melanie Harlow, I only recently dove between the pages of one of her books, specifically, Tease. Now I am a fan for life! I resisted starting on what I knew would be books to keep me up all night until this one, with a devastatingly handsome man staring out from the cover, teasing me. The book did not disappoint, from a clever plot built around an insecure heroine who blurts out a lie to save face and a shy billionaire. The sparks sizzle between these two until my Kindle almost burned my fingers. Don’t let the title fool you. This is no tease at all. It is as satisfying a read as any romance reader could desire.
K. Bromberg: Kristy hooked me with her Driven Series, so much so that I subscribed to Passionflix to watch the movie version (good, but nothing can touch her books). The flawed racecar driver that our damaged heroine calls Ace is too hot to handle. He’s got an ego the size of Texas but, of course, a heart of gold. Do gooder Riley is no match for our hero, fast on and off the track. The books read fast and are compelling from start to finish. Start with book one, Driven and hold on for the ride of your life!
Whitley Cox: I am lucky enough to know Whitley, we worked on a limited time anthology together several years ago. She is as funny outside her books as she is on the pages. And she’s smart and supportive, a magical combination. Her books are magic too, super clever in plot, real page turners that will satisfy with a happy ending but leave you craving another Whitley Cox story. For me, I got hooked on Whitley when I read the first in her Single Dads of Seattle series, Hired by the Single Dad. But you can get the first four books, bundled together using this link. I never baby-sat for anyone with a hot dad, but this book sure made me wish I had!
Willow Winters: Merciless introduced me to Willow Winters and the four-book Merciless series. The title doesn’t lie. These are Mafia romances with plenty of grit that many won’t find P,C, But if you go in understanding that these will be violent, in and out of bed,, and full of f-bombs, you will be hooked, as I was. The writing is top-notch, and the bad guys manage to completely win our hearts. Okay, not just ours. The stories are complex, the characters more so. Willow is one of the best in the dark romance genre for a reason. These books are compelling reads that will keep you up all night.
Penelope Ward: I grew familiar with Amazon Charts, Wall Street Journal,USA Today Bestseller and New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward with her standalone novel two years ago when I read The Anti-Boyfriend. Fortunately Ms. Ward has an extensive backlist because once I read one book I had to read more, and more and more. Unusual circumstances, an atypical hero and hot sex helped make The Anti-Boyfriend stand out for me, not your usual romance, except the part where I absolutely could not put it down! The plot was full of twists to keep it moving, a page-turner to the very last page. Then I was off and running, a die-hard Penelope Ward fan likes millions of others.
CD Reiss: Christine’s books are some of the steamiest I have encountered, and I cannot put any of them down. I was hooked long before I got to the Crowne series, with some of my favorite hot billionaires ever! I started my journey into the world of CD Reiss with Bombshell and I loved the Hollywood references, the sexy hot men and smart women. But I have never—I mean never ever—been disappointed by any of Christine’s books. They are well researched, full of details, complicated situations and complex characters. And hot sex, of course! Try the Crowne series. You’ll be hooked!
Kristin Proby: For me, NYT and USA Today Bestselling author Kristen Proby is the most recent steamy romance writer I have discovered, only in the last few months. That’s when I cracked open the first novel in her Single in Seattle Series, her forbidden romance The Secret. Her smart mouthed, hard-drinking women appealed to me right off the bat. She has snappy dialog and plenty of humorous moments where I felt our heroine’s mortification. The books in the series are supposed to stand alone, but there was no way I wasn’t going to read the whole series!
